Dear Woodard Girls' parents, girls and friends,

Welcome to the Woodard Girls’ blog site! We are a very busy house with the girls involving themselves fully in so many different activities that it is sometimes hard to keep track! The aim of this site is to keep you all up to date with their activities and achievements. I aim to update the blog every Monday afternoon, so please do come back and visit it on a regular basis.

CABARET

We were lucky enough to get enough tickets to allow the house to attend the annual Cabaret performance where members of the School perform with the School Jazz Band. Always a highlight of the year we were not disappointed listening to Raffie, Eloise, Nicola and  Bruna sing - awesome!  Tess and Beth were wonderful comperes adding humour and interest to the evening.

OUR NEW HOME

Moving into Godwin Hall

We were all excited to move into Godwin Hall during the half term break! After watching the building rise like a phoenix from behind the green fence, the levels of expectation and anticipation were huge as to what life would be like.  The all singing and all dancing building is better than any student halls of residence, and there is no doubt that we will be truly spoilt for out last few months at Ardingly. En-suite bathrooms are every girls dream at boarding school, and combined with all the latest gismos and gadgets, studying hard for our final exams should be much easier!

At the official opening of the house in March, we met our benefactor – and Old Ardinian Charles Godwin and his wife Bunty. Mr Godwin is a charming man who told some stories of his life at Ardingly and his subsequent ambitions and achievements. It is lovely to know that the building is named after such an inspirational figure’

Inter-House Singing

Inter-house singing Competition

With rehearsal time short due to IB Mocks and Public Examinations we entered a mash of several songs that were well worked together by Nicola and Bruna. The level of singing improved dramatically over the 10 days when we finally managed to focus on the competition – although we didn’t win, we performed brilliantly and could be proud of our achievements!

BURNS NIGHT

As tradition demands, the house met for a themed bar night where we celebrated Rabbie Burn’s birthday by eating haggis neeps and tatties, washed down with some irn bru. Cranachan followed along with scotish shortbread and to burn off a few calories , some took to the dance floor to learn the Dashing White Sergeant and the Strip the Willow. Mr Robinson organised a quick quiz with a Scottish slant and much fun was had by all!

CHRISTMAS!!

The end of the Michaelmas term was marked by a wonderful Xmas dinner held in the Woodard Forum for the last time. The food was excellent and the banter free flowing. Deigned a blacktie event, the boys brushed up well, while the girls proved to be the belles of the ball with some stunning dresses on show.

During the dinner we bid farewell to Mrs Jean Palin who leaves us to spend more time with her grandchildren. We will miss her sense of humour and dedication to the house – oh and her hours helping students with their maths homework during her suty night. She often went beyond the pale to help out and we wish her well

EUROPEAN NIGHT

Another evening when the house meets together and members of our community tell us about their countries – culture/history / landmarks and more often than not include more personal annecdotes that are enlightening and leave us better educated as to where they go to once they leave to go “home”. Always a fun and enjoyable evening that involves food, games and laughter!

Quiz Night

Quiz Night.
Every year, the forum turns into a competitive arena where teams battle it out to prove their level of intelligence (or not in some cases) as they battle with the questions posed by the house staff in the popular quiz night. Heckling and cheering always generate a wonderful atmosphere but the staff team this year took some stick – they still came out winners however! .
