Dear Woodard Girls' parents, girls and friends,

Welcome to the Woodard Girls’ blog site! We are a very busy house with the girls involving themselves fully in so many different activities that it is sometimes hard to keep track! The aim of this site is to keep you all up to date with their activities and achievements. I aim to update the blog every Monday afternoon, so please do come back and visit it on a regular basis.

INTER-HOUSE MUSIC WINNERS

Every year comes a day where all of the houses at the college compete against one another performing a wide variety of music. This year, with 20 minutes to fill, our music representatives Hannah Brand and Amanda Chan organised our set. To start, we had an amazing performance from Jennifer Forster on the oboe playing a piece by Poulenc. Her ability was definitely shown by her opening phrase. Then followed Harriet Kottering on the flute,  where her gentle and emotional playing wowed the audience. After Harriet was a wonderful duet called "Let Me Be Your Star" sung by Amanda Chan and Georgia Kinahan with gorgeous harmonies, they did the house proud. Last but not least was an ensemble group made up of Steph Bland, Hannah Brand, Amanda Chan, Amelia Elwin, Jennifer Forster, Harriet Koettering, Georgia Kinahan, Poppy Madaras-Smith and Imogen Smith who sang Royals by Lorde. In the end all the rehearsing done by all or performers, Woodard Girls came Third overall and our ensemble group one Best Performance. Well Done Girls!!"

STEEPO WINNERS!!

The annual steepo competition once again created great excitement in house as the girls pulled on their new bright pink house T-shirts and donned the face paint – alias war paint for the annual competition against Toynbee. Although the weather in previous days had been cold and wet to say the least, it was a great relief that the sun decided to shine on the day and that certainly helped to motivate the House .. and what stars they proved to be.
EVERYONE ran their heart out – determined to catch any “black Toynbee shirt” in front and it proved to be a proud day for all concerned:-

EVA CHILD – WON THE SENIOR EVENT with ABBIE HOSIER  a close second and ISSY JACKSON
Fourth.    Harriet , Tash, Tori  Emmanuelle and Arianne all finished in the top 10, and WG were easy winners of the Main inter-house cup. However this was not enough and when everyone’s position was taken into account we also ran out winners of the ENDEAVOUR CUP – fantastic!!!!                 Well done girls – you should all be so proud of your efforts!!

HOUSE MUSIC NIGHT

Organised by the House Music Representatives of both Woodard Boys and Woodard Girls, the Woodard Music Night was enjoyed by all. With  an eclectic mix of performances from the Dominic Morgan, Georgia Kinahan, Amanda Chan and General Buller (to name a few) there was a variety of music to be heard and with over two thirds of the Godwin Hall common room taken up by the audience (consisting of parents, students and house staff), the atmosphere was great. Thank you to all the performers for the entertainment, catering staff for the nibbles, Katrina and Timi for the fantastic hosting and to the spectators for a memorable night.

QUIZ NIGHT

The past six weeks have been very busy and we were all shattered - however our presence was demanded at another house event - Quiz Night. Not all together too sure, we gathered in the forum at the appointed hour and organised ourselves into teams - the banter started soon after and the competitive instinct came to the fore - not least who could think up the wittiest team name!

team names!

Yes that really is the answer!
What was the question again?

no idea!

Let me think.........

Mr R tested our knowledge on various subjects including entertainment, history, geography, food and drink - we are not too sure that all his answers are correct!!

quiz master extraordinaire!

you cannot be serious!

It proved to be a fun evening with friends - questions/arguements as to who was right/joy with guesses proving right,  and an opportunity to display our expert knowedge - all washed down with good food and a couple of drinks. Great fun - although the teachers team should have a minus score to begin with!!!

The victorious teachers!!

Fun Sunday with Lasers and Games!

Despite the horrible weather forecast, it was surprisingly sunny and dry during the Woodard House event on Sunday, which we were all pleased about! Day students and boarders were divided into three teams and then paired up with the boys, after which everyone headed to the fields behind the Astro. The activities included laser quest, sports day relay exercises, tug of war and some other team building events. This was a great opportunity to simply have a laugh with your friends and spend Sunday together as one big house. It was also a wonderful opportunity for some to meet or talk to people they've never spoken to and it united the day students and the boarders. After all the fun we had a BBQ, which was an incredible way to end the day. Having a BBQ made it feel very summery and cosy and it allowed everyone to share the hilarious stories from the laser quest and team building activities.
Sunday was lovely and it was great fun to spend the whole day together as an U6th House. Thank you to everyone who organised the event!
