Dear Woodard Girls' parents, girls and friends,

Welcome to the Woodard Girls’ blog site! We are a very busy house with the girls involving themselves fully in so many different activities that it is sometimes hard to keep track! The aim of this site is to keep you all up to date with their activities and achievements. I aim to update the blog every Monday afternoon, so please do come back and visit it on a regular basis.

WELCOME

Dear All,
Welcome to the first posting on the Woodard Girls’ blog site where my aim is to try to keep you up to date with some of the events in the lives of these busy young ladies. Hopefully, I will update it every Sunday so please do visit us on a regular basis for the latest news.
I have summarised some of the highlights from the first half term and included some photos to give you a taste for what will follow.
Best wishes
Joan Gall

Academically, the first half of term was very hard work for all the girls but I have been impressed by their commitment, resilience and achievements. The term started extremely well when Kate Burgess was announced as the History Scholar for August 2011 after her fantastic performance in her AS examinations where she scored over 90%!

Jennie Sloane won a prized place to attend a course at Villiers Park – these courses have a national reputation for excellence and extend the brightest students to gain an insight into a wide range of topics and are they are challenged to work towards the limits of their abilities. Her report is given below:-
I was very lucky to have the opportunity to spend a week on a chemistry course about why reactions happen at Villiers Park in Cambridge.
It was a really intense week, covering a large amount of material from the first year degree course at Cambridge, from shapes of atoms to energy levels and spectroscopy.
Although not being directly related to the A-level course, the material we covered was fascinating and was also incredibly useful for preparation for university interviews and for confirming my desire to study chemistry next year at university.

As a result of their academic attainments a total of 15 girls received Distinctions which is a wonderful achievement. Paloma Segura and Emily Baker both won two awards but special mention must go the following young ladies who were recognised in three subjects:-
Victoria Bergbauer  - French, Latin and Theory of Knowledge
Jennie Elwin  - Divinity and Philosophy, English and Religious Studies
Kathryn Welsh -  English Philosophy and Spanish.

We have a new board in the House where we celebrate everyone's distinctions -  I've tried to photograph it below to give you a flavour!

  1. Dear Joan, we are very pleased to see this initiative from you! It would be great to follow kids at Woodard through your blog, sitting so far away in Jakarta.
